Sharing their knowledge of the different spices, a group of older women passed on their experiences to younger generations at the event held on 10 March.
The Community For Life project is run by Nur Fitness and commissioned by Ageing Better Middlesbrough. Ageing Better Middlesbrough is supported by the Big Lottery Fund using National Lottery funding and is working to reduce loneliness and isolation in people aged over 50.
Shazia Noor, from Nur Fitness said: “We look at how people over 50 from black, Asian, minority and ethnic communities perceive isolation and are helping to address the barriers they come across for engaging with the wider community.
“It was amazing to see the older generation passing on their skills and gave a real sense of value to the ladies.”
Shanaz Hussain, 58, from Gresham, who took part in the spice mixing demonstrations said: “I did not realise how important my knowledge was and that others would be interested in it.”
The event was supported by Kashmir Food Store, Yasmin Bakery, K2, Mahmood & Sons, Drop Away and Food City.
