Bumper line-up unveiled for 2026 Middlesbrough Mela

Published June 29, 2026 By

East meets west as global music icons headline one of the UK’s most vibrant celebrations of culture, music and diversity.

Albert Park will once again play host to the hugely popular Middlesbrough Mela as the festival celebrates its 36th year over the weekend of August 15 and 16, 2026.

Bringing together world-class entertainment, international cuisine, family activities and cultural experiences, this year’s event promises one of the strongest line-ups in the festival’s history.

Topping the bill on Saturday is an incredible tribute to the man, the myth and the legend that is Michael Jackson.

It really Doesn't Matter if You’re Black or White as Mela will be Startin’ Somethin’ guaranteed to get audiences Blaming It on the Boogie with a spectacular all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the King of Pop.

However, this is no ordinary tribute show.

The production is set to be a two-part spectacular featuring a renowned international performer who has even entertained Michael Jackson himself and a host of other high-profile celebrities.

Organisers reveal that rehearsals are already under way for what promises to be an electrifying performance complete with dazzling costumes, stunning choreography, trademark vocals and all the signature moves and mannerisms associated with the world’s greatest entertainer.

Supported by backing dancers, theatrical lighting and spectacular stage effects, this promises to be one of the stand-out performances ever seen at Middlesbrough Mela.

Kash Patel, Executive Director of Middlesbrough Mela and curator of the Main Stage programme, said: “Every year we aim to deliver a line-up that appeals to even more people in the community.

“In Michael Jackson you had a performer, entertainer and creative artist who transcended all boundaries, bringing people together through the power of music.

“He was the ultimate showman and the greatest pop star that has ever lived.

“I was fortunate enough to see him perform live and witnessed first-hand the hysteria a single man could create.

“He didn’t just make music, he transformed the entire industry and inspired generations of artists who followed.

“At a time when Michael is once again capturing global attention through his blockbuster biopic, it feels only fitting that we pay tribute to his genius.”

From the King of Pop on Saturday to the Princess of Punjab on Sunday, Middlesbrough Mela 2026 promises a truly royal affair.

Headlining Sunday's programme is global superstar, international performer and cultural icon Miss Pooja.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential and successful female artists in Punjabi music history, Miss Pooja has built an extraordinary career spanning decades, with countless hit songs, sold-out concerts and a worldwide fanbase stretching across continents.

Known for her electrifying stage presence, powerhouse vocals and unique connection with audiences, she has performed before massive crowds on international tours and at some of the world's biggest cultural festivals.

Kash Patel added: “We are absolutely delighted that Miss Pooja has agreed to fly into the UK for a one-off exclusive headline set.

“Attracting international stars of this calibre is a clear testament to how far Middlesbrough Mela's reputation has grown on a global scale.

“We are incredibly proud to be bringing an artist of her stature to Teesside.”

The multicultural showcase attracts visitors from across the region and beyond for its unrivalled blend of live performance, entertainment and mouth-watering food from around the world.

Festival-goers can expect a vibrant mix of international headliners, home-grown talent, dance acts and family favourites throughout the weekend.

Other major artists appearing across the two-day extravaganza include pioneering British-Bangladeshi artist Mumzy Stranger, multi-award-winning and internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Veronica, veteran lead vocalist Harbhajan Talwar from legendary bhangra band XLNC, viral rap sensation Arma, alongside many more performers still to be announced.

BBC Asian Network will once again return as the event’s official broadcast partner and host, strengthening its relationship with Middlesbrough Mela while bringing audiences a packed schedule of entertainment, competitions, giveaways and live coverage across the weekend.

Beyond the music, Middlesbrough Mela is renowned for its dazzling selection of international food and drink, bustling shopping bazaar, free cultural workshops, giant funfair and extensive programme of children’s activities.
