The Park End and Thorntree areas will each get £20m over the next 10 years as part of the government’s Pride in Place programme.
New Neighbourhood Boards will be set up for both areas with a chair required for each.
The boards will work with the local community to put together a Pride in Place Plan. The plan will say how the £20 million will be spent over the next 10 years and can include things like:
• housing
• education
• employment and local businesses
• supporting communities
• health and wellbeing
• transport
• safety.
The council, councillors, and local MPs will support the Neighbourhood Boards. But the board and the local community will decide how the money is spent.
Both areas need a chair. The chair must be someone who lives in Park End or Thorntree, or who is a major stakeholder in the area. This could be a business owner, the head of a school, or a community leader, for example.
We’re looking for someone who:
• is trusted and respected by their community
• understands what their community wants and needs
• can develop an investment plan which works for the whole community
• will be able to get as many people as possible involved in making plans and investing the money.
People interested in the role of chair for Park End or Thorntree can submit an expression of interest now via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
The expression of interest must say:
1. Why you’re passionate about the future of your area (Park End or Thorntree).
2. How you’ll gain the trust and respect of residents.
3. How you’ll work with the community to make sure as many people as possible can have their say on the Pride in Place Plan.
Each of the three answers must be no longer than 250 words. Applications must be received by April 24 2026.
The expressions of interest will be shortlisted by a panel which includes local MPs Andy McDonald and Luke Myer, and Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke.
People on the shortlist will be invited to a short, informal interview with the panel.
Once appointed, the new Chairs will get support with recruiting people for their Neighbourhood Board.
