Diwali 2025 in Middlesbrough

Published September 26, 2025 By

DAZZLING DIWALI SET TO WOW CENTRE SQUARE CROWDS FOR 2025.

Diwali returns to central Middlesbrough next month, with crowds expected to flock to the town’s latest multicultural extravaganza.

Following hot on the heels of last month’s landmark 35th Middlesbrough Mela, the same team is putting the finishing touches to another blockbuster event.

Diwali takes place in Centre Square from noon on Saturday, October 25.

It is a free, fun event for all the family featuring live music and dance along with mouth-watering street food, children’s activities, a funfair and a Bollywood-themed fireworks finale.

Diwali is one of the major festivals mainly celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains all over the world.

Every year communities around the globe celebrate the five-day Festival of Lights which represents the triumph of good over evil.

Kash Patel, producer of Diwali in Middlesbrough, said: “Diwali is celebrated across major cities in the UK and we launched it here in Middlesbrough a couple of years ago as a response to coming out of lockdown as we felt it was quite a fitting representation of the victory of light over darkness.

“Since then it’s gone from strength to strength and its mass appeal is simply down to the fact there is something for everybody regardless of age, gender, social or religious background.

“It is a true reflection of unity in our community and if last year is anything to go by then thousands of people are set to descend on to Centre Square to join in the party atmosphere.

“Whether it’s participating in the various workshops and activities, shopping in the stall bazaar or simply being entertained by the acts on the main stage, it’s a great way for the whole family to enjoy a free day out.”

Councillor Philippa Storey, Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Executive member for Education & Culture, said: “Diwali is yet another high point in our rich cultural calendar, and a magical event for families.

“It’s a fantastic showcase of Middlesbrough’s welcoming and inclusive community spirit, and a brilliant celebration that puts us on a par with towns and cities up and down the country.”

• Diwali in Middlesbrough is on Saturday, October 25 in Centre Square. The event is free for all to attend and tickets are not required.
