The local campaign group – set up 12 years ago - held a successful fundraising event at Teesside Golf Club in Thornaby on Saturday, July 5.
On a theme of ‘An Indian Afternoon’, the event attracted 70 people for Indian food, music, handicrafts and fabrics.
A slide presentation ‘A whistle-stop tour of India’ completed the programme, while charity vice-chair Dr Chandra Kumar explained the charity’s work and the seriousness of head and neck cancers.
Donations of hand-made baby clothes and soft toys and some excellent raffle prizes helped to raise £623.
The Look A Head Cancer Campaign is also being supported by Tesco stores at Ingleby Barwick and Eaglescliffe/Yarm where shoppers are invited to take a blue token and vote for the charity of their choice.
Charity secretary Pam Cooper said: “Head and neck cancers are more common in the Teesside area than in other parts of the country which is why we continue to raise awareness of the first signs.
“As with other types of cancers, early detection and treatment is crucial to a good recovery.
“Every penny raised is put to good use in raising awareness of these cancers, especially in some of our most disadvantaged areas.”
