Dean Scores With Community Footie Sessions

By Published August 24, 2020

FOOTBALL sessions are keeping community spirit alive and kicking in central Middlesbrough.

The get-togethers are the brain-child of football fanatic and Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Safety Warden Dean Moore.

This week youngsters aged six to 16 enjoyed the holiday sunshine as they took part in the free sessions on the Esk Street five-a-side pitch at North Ormesby and Gresham's Laycock Park.

And Dean plans to continue the weekly work-outs for the rest of the school holidays - weather permitting of course.

Dean's well known locally for his footballing exploits, often in aid of good causes.

Earlier this year he and group of pals undertook a gruelling series of ‘keepy-uppy' challenges, raising more than £3,000 to support a local cancer sufferer.

Dean said: "The sessions have proved really popular and we've had a great mix of young people from many different nationalities all coming together for the love of the beautiful game.

"Some of the youngsters have been that impressive they'll soon be having trials with a Saturday under-12 team.

"And ideally once the dust settles and Covid-19 is behind us we're planning a trip out to play Footgolf."

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "What a great example of giving something back to the place where you live and work.

"Dean's helping to change young lives, and it looks like he's unearthing some real talent in the process."

Dean's community football sessions run most Mondays from 2pm in North Ormesby and from 4pm at Laycock Park.
