But now Middlesbrough Council is looking to find an individual to name as its annual Citizen of the Year.
The 2020 Civic Awards will honour people from across the town across a range of categories and nominations are open to any inspirational people or groups, whether for their actions specifically during the Coronavirus outbreak or their input to Middlesbrough life year-in, year-out.
There are six main categories, with awards presented to individuals, community organisations and businesses:
- Improving Employment Opportunities
- Improving Health and Wellbeing
- Helping People to Improve their Educational and Vocational Capability
- Making People Happier
- Making Physical Improvements to our Neighbourhoods
- Citizen of the Year
Judging panels in each category will comprise senior Middlesbrough Councillors and officers, representatives from Middlesbrough Voluntary Development Agency (MVDA) and the award sponsor.
The annual Citizen of the Year Award will go to an individual - an unsung hero or inspirational community leader - who has gone the extra mile to make a difference for others and improve the life of the town.
Nominations are also welcome for people/groups and businesses who were nominated last year and not shortlisted.
Nominations for the 2020 Middlesbrough Civic Community Awards are now open and have been extended from their original date to now close on Friday, June 12 at 5pm.
