And this week they will be staging a special exhibition of their own for family and friends.
The Year 3 and 4 students from Sacred Heart RC Primary School have spent the last term studying at the works of Christopher Dresser at Middlesbrough’s Dorman Museum.
They have visited the historic museum on three separate occasions to explore three different galleries to get ideas for ways to display their own work.
And with the help of a brand new free online toolkit for schools, the students and their teachers have researched, planned and produced their very own classroom exhibition.
The project has also seen the children document their work and build a portfolio of evidence towards gaining their Explore Arts Award.
And this week every child involved in the project is inviting their family to come to the school and see their creations on display
Dorman Museum Access Officer Sue Sedgewick said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to welcome the students to the Museum, and to share with them some of Middlesbrough’s fantastic history and heritage.
“They’ve thrown themselves into the project with huge enthusiasm, and have produced and exhibition of which they – and their families – can be truly proud.”
Sacred Heart Assistant Head Kerry Mallam said: “Making A Mark in the Tees Valley has been a terrific learning experience for the students.
“Each child has been able to gain a closer connection to the exhibitions and gain a unique insight into what goes on in their local museum.
“That has given a real sense of purpose to their work, and has inspired them to produce a fascinating and thought-provoking exhibition in their classroom.”
- The Making A Mark in the Tees Valley exhibition at Sacred Heart Primary takes place in the school’s main hall from 3pm to 5pm on Thursday, November 30.
