60th ANNIVERSARY FAB FOUR CELEBRATION AT MBRO THEATRE

The world’s favourite Liverpool-born tribute to The Beatles are heading to Middlesbrough to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Fab Four’s legendary show in the town.

The Mersey Beatles have wowed fans for more than 20 years and they are now bringing their biggest ever UK Tour to Middlesbrough Theatre on Friday, November 3.

The Beatles’ one and only concert in Middlesbrough took place at the old Astoria Ballroom on June 25, 1963. The support act was Billingham group The Johnny Taylor 5.

Sixty years on, and as part of their show at Middlesbrough Theatre, The Mersey Beatles will dedicate a large part of their opening set to 1963 and the songs the Fab Four played on their famous visit to Teesside.

The audience will be taken on a magical journey from The Beatles’ 1963 debut album ‘Please Please Me’, through the mop-top craziness of Beatlemania, the psychedelic brilliance of ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ to the band’s later classics such as ‘Get back’, ‘Revolution’ and ‘Hey Jude’.

Just like the real thing, The Mersey Beatles hail from Liverpool where they were the resident Beatles tribute at the legendary Cavern Club for a decade – playing more than 600 times at the world-famous venue.

Since leaving The Cavern Club, the band – Mark Bloor (John), Steven Howard (Paul), Craig McGown (George) and Brian Ambrose (Ringo) – have toured the world many times over.

Looking ahead to the Middlesbrough show, Steven said: “It’s going to be a brilliant night at Middlesbrough Theatre.

“Not only are we celebrating 60 years of ‘Please Please Me’ topping the charts, but the diamond anniversary of The Beatles rocking Middlesbrough!

“We’ve played two sell out shows at Middlesbrough Theatre before so we are really looking forward to heading back to Teesside again for another great night.”

The Mersey Beatles’ unforgettable live shows have won legions of fans, including John Lennon’s own sister Julia Baird and The British Beatles Fan Club who rate them as ‘the best Beatles tribute band around’.

On stage the band, who this year are touring the UK, Europe, USA and Asia, exude the inner and outer spirit of the real thing, from the costumes, instruments, Scouse charm and, of course, that unmistakable era-defining, Liverpool-born Mersey Beat.

Mark added: “When we play Middlesbrough Theatre we will be playing many of the songs The Beatles did when they played the Astoria Ballroom when their set included the likes of ‘Love Me Do’, ‘Some Other Guy’, ‘Do You Want To Know A Secret’, ‘Please Please Me’ and ‘I Saw Her Standing There’.

“So, Middlesbrough you have been warned… put on your dancing shoes – it’s going to be a FAB night!”
