Public Health South Tees is wishing the community a peaceful Eid Al-Adha at a time when the festival won't be celebrated in its traditional fashion.
The risks of the Covid-19 pandemic mean it is essential people continue to keep their distance from those they don't live with, wash their hands regularly for at least 20 seconds and wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces.
Joint Director of Public Health Mark Adams said: "I'd like to thank our Muslim community for everything they have done to help us slow the spread of Covid-19. I understand it's frustrating that Eid won't be marked in its usual fashion but it's vital that people stay safe.
"People should continue to keep a safe distance from others and only mix indoors with one other household.
"The more everyone does their bit, the sooner we should be able to celebrate together more freely again."
Anyone with symptoms of coronavirus - a new continuous cough, a high temperature or loss or change to their sense of smell or taste - should get a test immediately and isolate at home for 10 days. Local testing is available and can be booked by calling 119.
