Volunteers Sought for Middlesbrough Mela

Published August 09, 2019 By

FANCY getting involved in one the UK's most vibrant celebrations of dance, music and diversity?

The Middlesbrough Mela returns for its 29th edition on August 17 and 18 and organisers are on the look-out for volunteers.

The two-day festival showcases high-profile South Asian artists, home-grown talent, dance acts and family favourites and is sure to be a weekend not to be missed.

Festival Co-Chair Marcus Summerfield said: "We want to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering with us no matter what their skills and experience.

"There are a number of roles that people can undertake either in the build-up to the weekend or at the event itself.

"There will be opportunities for volunteers to help from 11am to 6pm on either or both days of the festival."

Examples of roles on the day include:

  • Visitor information and wayfinding
  • Assisting with the Mela puppets
  • Being a helping hand around the site
  • Completing event surveys with visitors

Councillor Mieka Smiles, Middlesbrough Council's Executive member for Culture and Communities, said: "A lot of organisation goes into ensuring Middlesbrough Mela is a success and the event's positive reputation continues to grow year on year.

"Any volunteer support to help deliver this year's amazing line up would be greatly appreciated."

  • The 2019 Middlesbrough Mela takes place at Albert Park on August 17-18 from noon - 7pm. For further information and to view the full weekend line-up visit www.lovemiddlesbrough.com/mela

Volunteers must be 16 and over or be accompanied by an appropriate guardian.
