CCTV Grants Available to Aid Crime Fight

Published August 20, 2020 By

MIDDLESBROUGH residents can now apply for Council funding to buy CCTV cameras for their homes.

The grant scheme has been launched in response to public concern over crime and anti-social behaviour.

Grants of up to £500 are available for equipment that must be used for filming the exterior of properties.

Tacking crime and anti-social behaviour head-on is one of Mayor Andy Preston's key priorities for the town.

Mr Preston said: "Decent and honest Middlesbrough families share my determination to drive troublemakers away. Fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour should be the enemy of everyone who cares about Middlesbrough.

"More CCTV will help us catch offenders red handed and make others think twice before committing crime that brings our town down.

"I get asked all the time about cameras and I know not everyone can afford their own equipment. This scheme gives people the power to protect their property and is a solid example of the Council working with local people to improve their communities."

The Council will provide a list of preferred suppliers and the system specification required.

Applicants must live in the Middlesbrough Council boundary and priority will be given to households in areas with higher levels of crime.

Businesses can also apply for funding but would have to make a contribution to the cost.
