BBC Big Weekend: Review and the event in photos

Published May 26, 2019 By

An amazing weekend of music on Teesside at Middlesbrough's very own Stewart Park became the home of BBC Radio 1 for their BBC Big Weekend.  With the biggest artists in the business traveling to Teesside to entertain the crowds, some taking advantage of our local airport Durham Tees Valley, such as MK, Lewis Capaldi, Miley Cyrus, MK and Mumford and Sons.

Were you there over the three days?  If so we have a gallery of pictures and performances on our website and also on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/cvfmradio/videos/1363634037152194/

BBC Radio One DJ's headed to Teesside too and even managed to party in the town Nick Grimshaw said on Sunday evening "We decided to go for more drinks and ended up in Tiny until the early hours. Annie Mac tried to play but she didn't have her USB sticks or the venue didn't have CDJ's. We said if we went back to the hotel for the USB Sticks would she do a set, she said yes so we went and got the USB Sticks whilst the venue found some CDJ's.  However, they weren't compatible after all of that but we partied until the early hours which was wicked".

Annie Mac kicked off the weekend on Friday evening with a great set to 6,000 fans packed into the 1 for New Music Tent.  Revelers were seen dancing around their handbags outside the tent.  Many acts telling the crowds "Middlesbrough you have been brilliant".  The 1975's brought the house down closing the Big Weekend to the capacity 34,000 audiences.

Putting Teesside on the map firmly, with party goers coming from all over, some as far as London, Dublin, Scotland, and Wales.

Following the event, many took to Facebook to say what a wonderful weekend it has been with Alice May posting to the BBC Radio One Big Weekend on Facebook said "I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone from Marton, Middlesbrough and Darlington. You have all been so welcoming, train staff have been amazing. Thank you for making our experience safe and enjoyable!!".
