Boro stars help to launch new pitches at Middlesbrough Sports Village

Published November 04, 2024 By

Middlesbrough FC stars Jonny Howson and Tommy Smith were on hand to help launch the refurbished artificial pitches at Middlesbrough Sports Village.

The surfaces of four 3G six-a-side pitches have been re-laid and the area was officially reopened on Wednesday, October 30.

Jonny and Tommy helped out with coaching at a Boro Soccer Schools Half-Term Soccer Camp, as well having pictures taken with the youngsters.

Middlesbrough Sports Village is run by award-winning operator Everyone Active, in partnership with Middlesbrough Council, who funded the new surfaces at a cost of £170,000.

Everyone Active’s area contract manager, Paul Ayre, said: “It’s fantastic news that these re-laid pitches are ready to use, allowing people of all ages and abilities to enjoy them and get active.

“These pitches will be a brilliant facility for the local community for many years to come.”

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “The artificial pitches at our fantastic Sports Village are deservedly popular, and we’re delighted to see them brought back into tip-top condition.

“Who better than a couple of Boro stars to officially launch them, and they’ll no doubt be a real inspiration to the next generation of young footballers hoping to follow in their footsteps.”
