Recycling Site to Close Over Fly-Tip Abuse

Published November 29, 2019 By

A MIDDLESBROUGH recycling site is to close following persistent abuse by fly-tippers.

The ‘bring site' at the Parkway Centre in Coulby Newham will close on Friday, November 29.

The decision follows large-scale fly-tipping and contamination of the recycling bins.

Residents are reminded that everything they can recycle at the site can be recycled via their home collections, and recycling can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Haverton Hill.

Councillor Dennis McCabe, Middlesbrough Council's Executive member for Environment, said: "There's no excuse for the sort of behaviour we've seen at the Parkway Centre bring site - it's nothing more than fly-tipping, and that's something we're determined to stamp out.

"Clearing the site up on an almost daily basis incurs significant costs, and the waste left cannot be recycled.

"This decision was therefore unavoidable - but those wishing to recycle responsibly can still do so using their normal domestic collections and blue lidded bin."
