New bins installed at key sites in recycling drive

Published November 19, 2025 By Michael Keating

New bins are being installed across Middlesbrough in the latest drive to boost recycling rates.

The bins – alongside conventional general waste bins – allow the public to recycle a range of items including bottles and cans.

So far ten of the combined bins have been installed, with eight along Marton Road, and two on Ormesby Road.

A further five will be delivered to key locations near shops and takeaways on Marton Road and Ormesby Road in the coming weeks, and another ten will be installed across the town centre in due course.

This week Councillor Peter Gavigan, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Environment & Sustainability, visited the newly installed bin near Norfolk Shops at Berwick Hills.

He said: “Recycling is more important than it’s ever been, and our recycling rates continue to improve which is really making a difference.

“If we all do our bit we can improve our own neighbourhoods, and help to protect the environment and combat climate change.

“I’m delighted to be able support local residents with their efforts, and I’m grateful to them for playing their parts in making our town as clean and green as it can be.”
