The Cleveland Art Society’s Spring Exhibition – which runs until March 31 – showcases a wide range of artworks at Gallery TS1 on Linthorpe Road.
The society - based at Macmillan Academy - was founded in 1884 and promotes drawing, painting, sculpture and general arts and crafts.
After a fall in numbers due to losses in World War One the society peaked at more than 200 members after World War Two, and spawned many local art clubs as a result.
It is linked with the creation of Middlesbrough Council’s art collection, and has hosted prestigious visiting speakers including Bridget Riley and George Melly.
- The Cleveland Art Society Spring Exhibition runs alongside the work of Gallery TS1’s own artists and is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm at 57 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough TS1 1LT.
Admission to the exhibition at the gallery is free.
