Annual Frost Fair to open renewed Stewart Park centre to the public

By Published November 27, 2017

To celebrate the transformation of Marton Hall’s former Victorian stable block into a 21st century learning centre, Askham Bryan College are excited to welcome the public on site for Stewart Park’s annual Frost Fair.

With over fifty food and craft stalls provided by the Northern Dales Farmers’ Market, carol singing by the Local Vocals (a thirty person choir from the Whale Hill Community Centre in Eston) and heritage talks on the centre’s history, this year’s Frost Fair is set to be one of its best.

The dynamic education centre has brought together 240 students from across Teesside and beyond to study a range of further education subjects, including animal management, equine and foundation learning courses.

Member of Parliament for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, Simon Clarke, officially opened the centre at a ceremony attended by over 80 guests on Thursday 2nd November. The restoration was made possible by a £3.2m National Lottery grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the completion of the £3.5 million project has transformed the Central Lodge into a hub for vocational learning and the Middlesbrough community.

“The Heritage Lottery Fund and Askham Bryan College have given the Central Lodge a new lease of life and we are so excited to be able to share the building and its history with the public to celebrate Stewart Park’s annual Frost Fair.” –Nick Barnes, Director of Regional Centres at Askham Bryan College.

A staple to Teesside’s Christmas offerings, the Park will also have its own Santa’s Grotto, hosted by Friends of Stewart Park. All proceeds collected will be donated to the non-for-profit and fundraising to maintain the beautiful park.

Visit the Grotto from 11am to 2:45pm and 1.15 – 3pm.
