Awards Night Shines a Light on Mental Health

By Published February 05, 2018

More than 150 people enjoyed celebrating the success and achievements of Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind’s volunteers, service users and staff.

The local charity’s Stars in Mind event was held at Jurys Inn, Middlesbrough last night (1 February).

Twenty-eight awards were given out to recognise the contributions that individuals have made to mental health services and improving people’s wellbeing in the local community.

Emma Howitt, Chief Executive of Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who came together to celebrate the outstanding work and personal achievements of our award winners, and everyone else who contributes to the organisation.

“That includes volunteers who give more than just their time, services users whose journeys with mental health continue to inspire others and our staff who genuinely care about the work they do.”

Guests included Mayor of Middlesbrough Dave Budd, Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger, event host and Chief Executive of Springboard David Barker as well as Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind’s volunteers, service users, staff and their friends and family.

Award winner Claire Coulthard, who volunteers for Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind as part of the Anti-Stigma group, said: “Even being nominated for an award was a surprise and to win one on the night, I was honoured.”

“It was a privilege to be in a room full of like-minded people who all want to do their bit for mental health and wellbeing.”

Fundraisers, who raised more than £21,000 in 2017, were also acknowledged on the night for their generous support.
