Dear Mela Community,
The Middlesbrough Mela is a cherished festival that, for the past 33 years, has brought together people from various cultures, races, and religions to celebrate unity, integration, and togetherness. It is time for friends and families to come together, enjoy vibrant performances, delicious food, and a range of activities in a joyful and safe environment.
We always prioritise the safety and well-being of our attendees at the Mela and we strive to create a safe space where everybody can relax and and enjoy themselves without any concerns or feelings of anxiety.
Unfortunately, this stability has been shaken lately due to the deplorable violence and unrest we have witnessed in many of our towns and cities. Due to this volatile climate and degree of uncertainty, we believe it is prudent to postpone this year's festival in order to safeguard the public. This decision has been a very difficult one but it allows us time to take more vigorous risk assessments and ensure that we can deliver this event safely for all of our communities.
We will be working closely with our partners and stakeholders to determine the most appropriate course of action of when to reschedule the festival. We are committed to providing updates and will announce the new date as soon as we have completed our assessments.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during these testing times. Please stay safe and remain vigilant.
Warm regards,
The Middlesbrough Mela team
